I typically think of it like this:

A = 10
A- = 9
B+, B = 8
B- = 7
C+ = 6
C = 5
C- = 4
D+ = 3
D, D- = 2
F = 1

But of course, the very nature of a grade scale implies a slightly different way of thinking about the meaning of the grade than numbers do...Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09491952893581644049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-73737607326987740212012-12-27T16:48:57.681-06:002012-12-27T16:48:57.681-06:00I just hit publish on my review and wish I'd j...I just hit publish on my review and wish I'd just wrote - go read Tim's review because even I think I like this a bit more than you (one of my favourite weird things is deciding how a ten scale grading system correlates to a typical A to F grade one) I agree with basically everything you say except Riley, who is playing a cipher but whom I still can't help finding charming despite that "accent" (his embarrassed laugh during that threesome is a slight highlight).

Is it strange that I feel personally offended that it's so beautifully shot and yet so unsatisfying? It took the events, but failed to give them context or depth. I thought Dunst and Stewart did super well.

Adams, on the other hand, was doing her best Piper Laurie impression. No idea what happened with that casting/performance.Sam Brookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09456254953886041016noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-83752809687699683802012-12-24T22:02:13.304-06:002012-12-24T22:02:13.304-06:00Unrelated, but am I going crazy or did you just ad...Unrelated, but am I going crazy or did you just add that archive over there in the side-bar?

Awesome.

I don't like everything being caps, but awesome anyway. Sam Riley is the poor-man's Jim Sturgess. Though, you made no mention of my favorite part of the film, which is Viggo Mortensen's performance as William S. Burroughs, which infused those parts of the film with some lunatic energy and was the only time the movie was any fun to watch.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18107667687751077093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-74651822805485348142012-12-24T17:26:43.467-06:002012-12-24T17:26:43.467-06:00Well that is a disappointment. I listened to the audiobook a few years ago, expecting a gauzy, romantic story, only to find an admirably hardheaded and in-the-moment look at a specific time and series of places in American history, with some terrifically vibrant prose. The ugliness and self-centered behavior of which the characters were capable came through just as much as their seductive energy. It sounds like the movie filmed the goopy, romantic reputation of the novel, rather than the novel itself.Zev Valancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10239062791827527067noreply@blogger.com
