I'm old enough to remember seeing grindouse movies in the theater, and sloppy splicing and cruddy projectors created those efeects withins weeks of their initial release. I do agree that Rodriguez's tweaking became too frequent and self-aware. And although the "missing reel" gag was hilarious, it rarely ever happened in reality.pav777https://www.blogger.com/profile/02904586579610777573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-39882231319824973392007-04-11T14:33:00.000-05:002007-04-11T14:33:00.000-05:00Portelance: not only have I also seen that film - ...Portelance: not only have I also seen that film - twice! - but it's going to shortly be the subject of a review here and by "shortly" I mean "tonight."

Great minds, and all that.Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09491952893581644049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-14418571880902643502007-04-11T14:11:00.000-05:002007-04-11T14:11:00.000-05:00Your comments on the SS trailer remind me of this ...Your comments on the SS trailer remind me of this movie I saw a while back: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081027/

Much as you say you would expect the Werewolf SS movie to me, it consists of a really boring plot with awful acting up until the last 20 minutes which feature a crazy Zombie-Nazi shootout.Portelancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08183983394384070012noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-67077301130858566362007-04-10T02:59:00.000-05:002007-04-10T02:59:00.000-05:00Wow. The one that meticulously tells me exactly the right order that everything should be in. And then, another letter (although not quite as detailed) came in the can with the movie. TWO letters. Plus all the normal stuff that goes into knowing the right order of the movie.

I seriously, seriously hope that projectionist was acting on some sense of being offended that the people at the Weinstein Company thought they were that dumb and decided to mess with it. Because otherwise...?

I am also very sorry "Machete" was therefore eclipsed by the other fun trailers.

Out of curiosity, did you see the first show, or had it run all day like this?Rebeccahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06316541604903436175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-14696757701522740952007-04-10T01:25:00.000-05:002007-04-10T01:25:00.000-05:00Great stuff, Tim.I was dissappointed when I heard ...Great stuff, Tim.

I was dissappointed when I heard that it didn't play with structure more. When I first heard of the Grindhouses, I was told that frequently you'd show up in the middle of something, and stay until the program of features and trailers returned to the point where you'd come in. I wanted the end of Tarantino's film, some trailers, The Rodriguez film, some trailers, and the beginning of Tarantino's film, with Tarantino's film being structured (like it would be a stretch for him) to actually makes sense being shown in that order.

I need to see this film. Your reel-swapping story is amazing.

Will

PS: For over a month leading up to the release of the film, the New Beverly Cinema in LA (think Music Box, but cheaper, and trashier, but with a rotating bill of double features that changes every two or three days... I've seen Raging Bull with Goodfellas, for example) did nothing but show Grindhouse films hand-picked by Tarantino. The man certainly knows his b-movies.Willhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14009675510377729941noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-58877575462920728412007-04-09T22:46:00.000-05:002007-04-09T22:46:00.000-05:00wow tim. this isn't just a review, this is a cover...wow tim. this isn't just a review, this is a cover-worthy feature. and i loved your idea of including the "happy accident" of reel shuffling as a dvd feature.Jackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14456604504802528616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-62866582481762773512007-04-09T21:13:00.000-05:002007-04-09T21:13:00.000-05:00I really enjoyed this review, Tim.
