We saw it together in a theater with very few people and came out somewhat trauamtized by it - enough so that we found out later that we all slept with the lights on. We're all horror movie fans so we're not easily scared, but something must have clicked that night. I'm afraid to revisit the movie because I might not like it, given the bad reviews.

We had also all been watching the above-mentioned Marble Hornets series so that may have helped. (And I agree with Chris D, the series is really good for about 35-40 episodes, and then I stopped watching. Some moments scared the hell out of me, but they do a good job with atmosphere too.)

Also, I have not seen Rec 2, but I have seen Rec 3. It's more a typical movie than the previous two as it sheds the found footage style, but I still enjoyed it. It had some good gore.Kelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13873654583309967875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-11615630902635421552013-01-19T23:28:23.540-06:002013-01-19T23:28:23.540-06:00Kevin- Worth it, yes. I'm intrigued by it, but 26 shorts is a pretty big investment, and god only knows if it's ever coming to Australia.Chris Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07633087241215626035noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-41429229631005657022013-01-19T22:19:15.584-06:002013-01-19T22:19:15.584-06:00Not to threadjack, but all this talk of [REC] (whi...Not to threadjack, but all this talk of [REC] (which is one of my favorite modern horror films) has me wondering: can any of you tell me whether the sequel is worth looking at? It's been so long since I've seen a good found footage film I forgot some where pretty solid (though I've never liked the Blair Witch). You're right that nothing in the found footage genre has been as bad as the worst of torture porno. But I contend watching The Devil Inside will break anyones enthusiasm for found footage. I don't even think it qualifies as a film so much as an advertisement for a website. I'll checkout Marble Hornets though.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04634087887519608773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-27998822131201681702013-01-19T16:55:07.616-06:002013-01-19T16:55:07.616-06:00@KingKubrick - I dunno, I found The Blair Witch Pr...@KingKubrick - I dunno, I found The Blair Witch Project and [Rec] both to be pretty fantastic. Granted, I haven't really watched any of the movies said to represent the nadir of the genre, so maybe I'm not as jaded with it as a lot of horror fans, but it seems to me the cumulative sins of found footage are preferable to, say, the total creative bankruptcy of contemporary zombie movies, or the moral wasteland of torture porn (be it American or European).

Actually, the crowning achievement of found footage horror may not even be a movie at all. The Youtube webseries "Marble Hornets", particularly its UNGODLY FUCKING TERRIFYING first season, does some seriously intriguing things with the format that movies by their very nature can't really tap into. I'd reccomend it to any horror fan who remains unconvinced that the format can be used effectively.

As for V/H/S... I dunno Tim, I may have been sold on it in spite of what you had to say. A paranormal horror anthology sounds intriguing, found footage or otherwise. I might just have to come to my own judgements on this one.Thrash Til' Deathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01741491764040608276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-47620217243929205632013-01-19T15:48:57.051-06:002013-01-19T15:48:57.051-06:00Somebody needs to put a stake in Found Footage'...Somebody needs to put a stake in Found Footage's heart. It was never good. It never has been good and I'm damn tired of it. Paranormal Activity had decent scares and I enjoyed it mainly because it was a reprieve from the death throws of torture porno as embodied by the Saw franchise (those sucked too) but it also is responsible for The Devil Inside getting green-lit so fuck that movie. I want Hammer to turn out some more like Woman in Black and revitalize the haunted house genre -- something, anything, to buck this trend.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04634087887519608773noreply@blogger.com
