The animation budget is particularly well appropriated, very few frames wasted on anything that doesn't deserve them (of course, there is so much in the show that *does* deserve them), with touches of extreme flair reserved just the right time.ilmaestrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18112632544852577922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-11319580580910937112010-09-02T13:07:40.019-05:002010-09-02T13:07:40.019-05:00And then in Ep 2, this end of the equation is 1, o...And then in Ep 2, this end of the equation is 1, or "ichi". The chatter at the beginning is not as "meaningless" as you think. Pay attention to what they're actually saying.

Also, did you notice the end of the old man's scribbled equation is the room # Tsukiko is in? WooooOOOOoooh!

I'm so glad you're reviewing this! I watched the whole series for the first time a week ago, and it blew me away. Actually, they remind me a little of rotoscoping.

Kawazu was a stand-out as he reminded me of a lizard. He was so seedy opposed to the innocent Tsukiko.

Also, watch out for Maromi's eyes moving when Tsukiko is being chased just before the 'second attack'.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-6243220825521311722010-08-31T17:04:38.027-05:002010-08-31T17:04:38.027-05:00The internet ate my longer reply, but in short: th...The internet ate my longer reply, but in short: thanks Sparrowsabre for pointing out those things, and I totally agree, Densua, I LOVED that ice cream scene.Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09491952893581644049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-57684134324402004112010-08-31T14:44:00.072-05:002010-08-31T14:44:00.072-05:00I had watched it subtitled previously, so I went w...I had watched it subtitled previously, so I went with the dub this time. I thought it was fine. True, most of the writing sounds totally unnatural, but I think that's more a function of the kind of show this is trying to be than of the localization itself.GeoX, one of the GeoX boys.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14658452994152399308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-84157148042195855842010-08-31T14:34:55.427-05:002010-08-31T14:34:55.427-05:00I have to concur the dub is inferior, but viewer&#...I have to concur the dub is inferior, but viewer's discretion =P

And I agree Denusa Kawazu is probably one of the most disgusting characters around. The tying of the stem into a knot is also an extra layer of perversion on his part.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-52491178648290473132010-08-31T13:29:00.126-05:002010-08-31T13:29:00.126-05:00Woe unto all who watch the US dub i.e. DON'T W...Woe unto all who watch the US dub i.e. DON'T WATCH THE UTTERLY HOLLOW US DUB.

Anyway, some interesting initial thoughts you've got there, Tim, although unsurprisingly short on what I REALLY want to talk about (because we're only on episode 1, dammit!).

I'll agree with the point that Kon has a talent for ugly detail and it really shines through in the journalist guy. He knocks down old men, shows porn to kids, and tries to look up the skirts of devastated victims of assault. That scene where he ogles Tsukiko and then it cuts to a close-up of his fat tongue licking ice cream... *shudder*.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14812333.post-84292981039890119562010-08-31T04:51:06.935-05:002010-08-31T04:51:06.935-05:00I should just say first off Maromi is a guy. Yes I...I should just say first off Maromi is a guy. Yes I know it's mad but it's only something that's mentioned towards the end of the series. It's not a spoiler though, just something I thought I'd say. Also the writing on the wall fortelling Lil Slugger's arrival is the episode title (though it may read as "Little Slugger was here". All the episodes have their titles hidden in the environment which took me AGES to realise and some don't show until the end of the episode.

Now for discussion proper, I think the first episode is one of the strongest in any tv series, the opening part with everyone making excuses for meeting commitments only becomes truly relevant later on, but it's one of the great things about Paranoia Agent, so many subtleties become apparent upon rewatch.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
